The Move to Cape Town

Cape Town

It came very suddenly, but like most things sudden, had a long inevitability. When I was a youngster I'd always say that Cape Town would be my ideal place to live in South Africa. Here, I've always maintained, you get an overdose of all the things a creative and nature-inspired person could want. Here, you can consistently indulge in beautiful opposites: the dynamic combination of the Indian and Atlantic oceans hugging the peninsula, glorious mountain ranges, not the least of which being the fascinating (and famous) Table Mountain, and a vibrant city overflowing with creativity and inspiration as powerful as the nature that surrounds it. What more could you ask for?

Indeed, my move to the Mother City has been a richly rewarding one. I've taken up drama classes with the ITMSA (Independent Theatre Movement of South Africa), Indian singing lessons, and have to constantly reel myself in as to not let the never-sleeping nightlife steal away my body and mind's much-needed rest. All in all I feel very much like a wide-eyed kid in a candy store of creative expression.

I have to say thanks to the lovely people of Cape Town for receiving me openly and being bright angels on my journey. The kindness that's been lavished upon me is enormous, and my sense of respect and gratitude has been multiplied for it.

Soon I am off to the Grahamstown Festival. I'm playing shows the entire first week of the festival, Monday 21 June to Friday 25 June, and its set to be a busy time. After that, a visit to familiar grounds, with a show in Jeffreys Bay on the 8th, and Port Elizabeth on the 9th of July. I am almost sad to leave Cape Town for the time I'll be touring, but know that I'll return with and ever fresher and vibrant outlook, meeting the city with open arms, like she has met me.

If you perhaps have a drink ready, please toast with me: To vibrant journey's and explorations, kind strangers, and to homecomings!
