Meri Kenaz has just completed a very successful first participation on the Fringe program of the National Arts Festival at Grahamstown with her performance In a Moment.

She created a buzz amongst festival goers with her energetic acoustic guitar play and powerful voice. Her original strong lyrics and songs inspired her audience. She performed in thirteen official shows, other than regular open stage performances at the village green and the popular sundowners’ show at the Settlers monument. The appreciation of her talent shown by her audience was confirmed when she was nominated for and awarded a Standard Bank Ovation Award. This new recognition award for cutting edge performances on the fringe program of the NAF is adjudicated by a panel of judges after nomination by the media. The cherry on top for Meri Kenaz was when this award in the category Music was recognised as a silver merit, alongside acclaimed guitarist Nibs van der Spuy. The gold merit in this category was awarded to Guy Buttery, who received a SAMA award in 2009. All three these artists record their music at Peace of Eden Studio in Knysna, under the Homegrown Music label.

Meri Kenaz is touring her NAF show country wide. She will be performing at Potters Place, Jeffreys Bay on 8 July, at Toni’s Place in Port Elizabeth on Friday 9 July, during July and August She will be performing in the Western Cape, In September she will perform in the Free State on her way to the White mountain Festival in KZN 23 to 26 Sept where after she will be touring Gauteng and then the rest of KZN.
